Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl LP Mastered From Original Masters of Universal Music Pressed at Pallas Violinist Nathan Milstein accompanied by pianist Artur Balsam performs compositional works by Prokofiev Handel & Vitali recorded January 25-27 1955 in New York. Opus 94 is one of the most serene tuneful and silky -smooth of Prokofievs works and is perhaps his most popular composition for chamber ensemble. It was originally written for the flute and the present reviewer likes it better that way especially when there are people like Doriot Anthony Dwyer to record it. Milstein nevertheless presents an extremely eloquent case for the violin version which was made by Prokofiev himself. The violinists big tone and broad generous style are of course perfectly adapted to the baroque demands of Handel and Vitali and the recording of all three works is excellent. - High Fidelity
