Legendary Hip-Hop Duo Atmosphere Announce New Album

Fans of Atmosphere will be excited to hear that the hip-hop duo has announced their next album, So Many Other Realities Exist Simultaneously, dropping May 5th via Rhymesayers Entertainment. The duo’s 13th album is a follow-up to their successful 2021 outing, Word? and serves as one of the most ambitious projects in their catalog. Producer Ant is arguably at his best on this new release, showcasing an eclectic array of new beats that perfectly complement Slug’s rapping.

So Many Other Realities Exist Simultaneously features a ridiculously talented group of rappers making guest appearances, including Sa-Roc, Murkage Dave, Shepard Albertson, and Bat Flower, with cover art designed by acclaimed artist Michael Alan Alien. The album is a welcome escape from our current reality, addressing society’s collective exhaustion due to the ongoing pandemic, the struggle for equality, and myriad other factors. The record’s lead single, “Okay” is a relentlessly positive anthem of perseverance and in Slug’s own words, “a gentle reminder that you are gonna be okay. I have no idea how you’ll manage, but I fully believe in you.”

The music video for “Okay” was directed by Marmo Films and features an exciting cast of guest stars, including actress Taryn Manning, rappers Murs & Chino XL, singer-songwriter Nikki Jean, and even pro wrestler “Platinum” Max Caster showing off his acting chops. Watch the video for “Okay” below.

In addition to the video, Atmosphere has released two album tracks. “Thanxiety” lives up to its name, coming in with eerie, anxiety inducing textures while Slug provides a juxtaposition by rapping about sense of self and confidence. “Sterling” gives us classic rock inspired guitar licks behind Slug’s thoughtful commentary on issues in our society. ABOUT ATMOSPHERE:

Producer Ant and rapper Slug founded Atmosphere in 1996 and never looked back. Beginning with their first album, Overcast! in 1997, Atmosphere has proven to be one of hip-hop’s most prolific outfits, releasing 13 albums to date, along with 10 EPs. The Minneapolis-based duo has been a fixture of the Midwest music scene, bringing along the genre Slug once jokingly described as “emo rap.” A perfect complement to one another, Slug has mastered the art of skillful storytelling, both introspectively and from a third person perspective. Ant’s productions have only grown more complex while maintaining the influence of the genres that inspired them to begin making music. With their 13th record set to release and a tour of Europe supporting it, Atmosphere is primed for a big 2023 and we as fans can’t wait to see what’s in store.
